OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY FOR CHILDREN WITH AUTISM, SPECIAL NEEDS & TYPICAL with Britt Collins M.S. OTR/L

ABOUT DVD:

The 45 minute program introduces parents to Occupational Therapy (OT) and what it can do for a child with behavior and/or sensory dysfunction. Occupational Therapist, Britt Collins, combines OT and ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) to teach parents, educators and caregivers what they can do at home to help with desensitizing and reprogramming how the child's brain processes sensory information.

Britt guides us through this program in both clinical and easy to follow terms. She also provides families with a guideline on how to integrate "sensory diets" into their home.

This program includes sections on:

  • gravitational insecurity
  • motor planning
  • vestibular dysfunction
  • proprioception dysfunction
  • tactile dysfunction
  • visual motor
  • oral motor
  • organization of behavior

"Your Occupational Therapist may only see your child for an hour a week. Please work with your child's OT and find out what areas you can be working on at home. The more we can do together, the more it benefits the child" Britt Collins M.S. OTR/L

"OT for Children with Autism, Special Needs and Typical"
recently won an award for "Outstanding Product" 2008 from iParenting, a division of Disney.

ABOUT BRITT:

Since graduating from Colorado State University with a Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy, Britt has practiced in a variety of settings including Sensory Integration clinics, schools, homes, rehabilitation, and skilled nursing facilities. Britt honed her Occupational Therapist skills at a pediatric clinic in Tarzana, California prior to working for Pedia Staff in the Battle Ground, Washington school district where she oversaw 2 elementary schools and 1 middle school.

Britt focuses her career as an OT on Sensory Integration and how this affects children with various special needs, such as autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, Sensory Processing Disorder, Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Delays. While in college Britt worked as a Behavior Consultant with a diverse group of children with behavioral needs, implementing programs into the homes, schools and community. Working through Applied Behavior Analysis has given her an increased prospective on how children with behavior "issues" strive to have organization in their lives.

Britt is a member of The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). She currently works with the Legacy Health System in Pediatric Rehabilitation and Inpatient Acute Pediatrics in Portland, Oregon.

From the Blog

Sensitive Sam written by Marla Roth-Fisch is an engaging look at how Sam feels and interprets the world. This is a great book for little kiddos trying to understand why they feel “different” and also good for older kids to grasp sensory processing issues. The author explores many sensory situations including school - which we all know is a biggie with our kiddos. Occupational Therapy is introduced and Sam and his parents learn how to help Sam feel better and more comfortable.

This is an amazing resource for any family. Parents will benefit as well. Specially if ...
